Problems due to picture extension case

31 Oct 2009, 15:09

Hello!

I don't know if this has been reported already, but I've noticed that when a picture has its extension in uppercase, then when sharing the link (through the "share this photo with a friend" link), the thumbnail would not show in the email.
When the filename is Image.JPG, the url of the thumbnail in the mail is Image.jpg thus the problem.
I know this is a very small glitch in this particular case (hum... didn't do that one on purpose), but I had similar problems in the past (can't remember exactly in what particular situation, but I remember starting to rename all my files to put their extension in lowercase, which is pretty annoying... Especially when I forget to do it, which made me notice this small bug)

Wouldn't it be better to just create thumbnails that have the exact same extension case as the original filename, so it would prevent this kind of dead links?

But again, this is really a minor glitch in this awesome application si I hope you won't mind for me reporting it :) It's just that my camera puts all the extensions in uppercase, so that would be even better if I didn't have to think about renaming the files before uploading them.

Cheers,

Edit: and by the way, I remember that when a folder name has spaces in it, the link in the email doesn't work at all... but I know it's not good to have spaces in filenames or foldernames anyway, so I changed them. But just to let you know...

Do you know what release version of Imagevue you are using? Perhaps you have a link to your gallery?

Yeah sorry, I realize my first post wasn't very clear.
I have the last version (2.1.5) and it is indeed just the thumbnail in the email that isn't showing (because the thumb is named tn_Image.jpg, but the url is tn_Image.JPG)

Well, I didn't notice that it was also missing in the form until now, but I was actually talking about the actual email that is being sent (I tested the functionality and sent photos to myself to check the template).

Post the link you're getting in email please, because I got mine directly from email I received from our own site and you can see it's quite all right.

You're right, it probably would have been easier to just send you a link.

[Edit: URL removed]

You can try with this picture here and you'll probably figure out what I mean pretty quickly.

Hey pain,

There is no problem on the display of the image on the gallery, just click on the "share this photo with a friend" link and send the link to yourself.
Now, in the email you receive, the thumbnail doesn't show.

Other thing: when the folder name has a space in it, the link in the email you receive simply doesn't work.
Try it here for example: [Edit: URL removed]

I click your link, sent an email to myself. In the email, I saw a thumbnail, and clicked the link, and it took me to the correct page:

Hey! Thanks for your replies.

I just switched to 2.1.6 and it didn't change anything. I really can't explain why it doesn't work on my side, when it does on yours.

Karl, the link I get when I do what you did is:
[Edit: URL removed]/#/content/private/New+York/DSC_9913c.jpg/
Which doesn't work because of the "+" between "New" and "York".

As for the other link ([Edit: URL removed]/#/content/20_World/Europe/Germany/Berlin/CSC_6528.JPG). I still get the email with the url of the thumbnail being:
[Edit: URL removed]/content/20_World/Europe/Germany/Berlin/tn_CSC_6528.JPG
but in order to display the thumbnail correctly, it should be:
[Edit: URL removed]/content/20_World/Europe/Germany/Berlin/tn_CSC_6528.jpg
But the link works though, and gets me to the right page.

It's really weird that I don't get the same email as you guys... Or maybe is it related to my OS or browser? But I also tried on different computers, OS and browsers (XP, Vista, Firefox, Google Chrome) so it would be quite surprising as well.

Sent you a link from our site to gizmo tiet.net, tell me if you get it.

Gotta say it took few tries to upload 2.1.6 release, maybe you downloaded an unlucky .zip, please re-download it again.

If it's not gonna work for you.. I'll quit. (Think it should work though)
