Just for the record:
I've just done a completely new installation of my OS

- re-installed Windows XP + SP3
- IE8
- Adobe Flashplayer 10 ActiveX

Tried to visit the galery http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl after that.
Loading bar still sticks on the screen unfortunately.
Would you be able to provide login to your admin, and I will do some research directly into this on your site and check around on the browsers you mention. The problem does not occur here on in Firefox on Mac.

I have the same problem...
http://foto.robku.nl
The first time I open the site... the page stops loading... only de round waitingbars are displayd. After some refreshes, the site opens. And will work oke for the rest of the tries... It looks like there must be some 'wakeup' at the server-side :)
Ik looked at the site of Ruud, and his problem is exactly the same. The first time I followd his link to his site, it stops after displaying the wait bars. At that point you can open de music menu. it shows something like... no defined... After a refresh... F5 the site opens how it should do.

Tried with IE, firefox... XP, Server 2003... it always is the first time I opend it that day.

I also looked at your site Robku, it appears to be the same problem as mine indeed. Loading bar keeps visible on screen, but your music starts out playing right away.

After the first refresh everything seems to work just fine.

I hope there is some solution for it, cause i get to hear about this issue from people trying to visit my site now and then..

Thanks for the afford already put in to it mjau-mjau

Sometimes them music starts... sometimes it would not...
What I noticed, If the music does not start and you go to the menu music menu, there is a msg that it is undefined. After wating... sometimes more then a minute... the undefined msg disapears... and the songs pop up in the menu en starting to play...
Waiting a long time, does NOT display the main menu, so no pics can be displayed.

Regards,
Rob

I checked your link Robku, and to me this issue seems like something else when diagnosing with firebug. First time I checked the gallery, it did not seem to load past the first stage ... this is the process where it loads the heaviest item, which is folders:
http://robku.nl/foto/imagevue.php?a=folders
After first try, it seemed to load fine ... If this script does not load, there is something related to the server.

As for any preloader hanging ... I can not see this. I only saw the circular preloader on first load, which basically means its NOT LOADING ... not that the preloader is hanging.

Thereafter, after this script seemed to load well as far as I could see, I didnt see any other problems. The audioplayer did not load here, but that is because the audioplayer makes sure there is enough bandwidth to stream BOTH audio files AND images. In the case where it takes a long time to preload, the program thinks the connection is slow, and will disable the audio player. You can change this by going to admin -> settings -> audioplayer.minimum_connection ... lower the value to as low as 0, but then you may have users on low speed modems that are attempting to play audio and images (which will seem very slow for them).

As for the general issue in this thread, we are doing research.

Thanks for the info...
The music was turned off by me... I just wanted to know if it got something to do with this...
To be honest I don't understand your info completely... Because every time after a wait... the album starts in a different way... Usually after a couple of F5, everything works fine without any problem... Until you stop working with it... and wait "some time"
Sometimes the preload starts... sometimes the preload is not starting...
Do you thinks my problem is not related to this topic? I opened the site of Ruud and the problem looks the same...
So I just wait until you complete the investigation regarding this issue? Thanks in front.

Well, I certainly cant see any loading BAR that stays on screen. The original topic is about a bar that sticks on screen, even AFTER the specific content is loaded. In your case, I can see the circular preloader staying on screen, but this is because the content is not loading ...

I see there is some similar issue with Ruuds site:
http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl/imagevue.php?a=config
That script does not load at first time, but second time it laods fine (meaning the gallery will proceed without problem). This is something with server, and I dont know what, but it may be related to this being an intensive script on the server.

In case of the issue above which seems intermittent for both of you, I will ask you wait for next major release which is just upon the horizon. In this release, there will be a big change to how this works, as there will be cached XML files for this initial load. It will cause much less strain on the server, and galleries will load much faster.

Interesting to mention that on initial visit this link doesn't load at all:
http://robku.nl/foto/imagevue.php?a=fol ... h=content/

but on the second time it is displayed right away.

Looks like this is caused by either connection limit or apache processes limit on server which are set too tight. So the second time you reload page it doesn't load everything from server and thus not getting over connection/processes limit. Also it might be caused by FastCGI but which we witnessed several times before, it just doesn't return php pages from the first try sometimes.

You need to consult your hosting provider, send them some links and ask how they could explain this behaviour.

Thank you pain.

I've notified my hosting provider with the issue, and let you guys know if and when they know more.

Hosting providers reply

17 Aug 2010, 15:24

Here is the reply they send me, i translated into english:

Dear Ruud van Dijk,

Thank you for your letter.

During the loading of your page an additional request is beeing made to the following pages - all three of these requests have a timeout:

http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl/imagevue.p ... h=content/
http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl/imagevue.p ... &path=link
http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl/imagevue.p ... t/mp3/&ext =
MP3 & sort = rnd

When you refresh the page, the above requests are succesful,
and there are still a few more beeing made.

When we use the above requests for a separate test, the following
two script are rather slow:

http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl/imagevue.p ... h=content/
http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl/imagevue.p ... t/mp3/&ext =
MP3 & sort = rnd

We can not see why this script itself is so slow, you can
perhaps give the above information to the developers. They might be able to make an adjustment to the script.

If you have any questions please contact us again via
e-mail or online chat at our website.
Sincerely / Best Regards

The only thing is that at first time I tried, this script:
http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl/imagevue.p ... h=content/

It just timed out, but after that, I am trying it and it is being displayed instantly. That's bit strange behaviour which I was hoping to get explanation for.

Then they say this one is returning a time out:
http://www.rvd-fotografie.nl/imagevue.p ... &path=link

This is bit of nonsense because it's the simplest script, and again, the problem is that next time you try everything works.

This is 100% server related, but looks like those guys didn't bother too much even testing it.

The problem: First time you access a script it gives you a timeout, after that - everything works fine. Just any script it seems.

As I said it might be FastCGI bug which we wintessed before in our other projects. Or some proxy issue.
