encoding in contact form : accented letters and @ corrupted

09 Sep 2008, 09:17

Hello,

I think that there is an encoding problem with contact form fields : I'm unable to input accented characters like é è ৠà ... and even @...

é is transformed into à ©
è is transformed into à ¨
@ is transformed into @

Could you help me ? Thank you very very much !!

Must be old version, this was fixed awhile ago and I just re-checked:
Code
é è ৠà ... and even @... (pain@pain.com),
sends the following message:

é è ৠà ... and even @...

Hmmm... I'm sorry but this happens with the latest update.

To verify it, I've immediately downloaded the 03 September 2008 update (2001558 bytes), unpacked it and uploaded its contents my server, logged as admin, allowed email in main controls and test the contact form... This problem happens...

Sorry for delay, forgot about it. Did you change anything on your server recently? Even /beta/ does not working now.

But we uploaded latest:
http://www.theyellowpebble.com/imagevue/

Disable safe_mode and open_basedir in php.ini then your version will work.
Also I sent "é è ৠà ... and even @..." to myself and to you to your email from profile. Everything works as I said.

Careful when editing configs.

Disable safe_mode and open_basedir in php.ini then we'll continue.
Hello,

I don't understand what you mean about "/beta/" : I do not have such directory in the FTP. Moreover, I don't know why you cite "theyellowpebble.com" : this is not my website. Moreover, I didn't change anything on my server, and the imagevue gallery runs perfectly (except encoding problem described earlier)... Finally, I'm not the owner of the server and I have no access to php.ini.

I think that there is a misunderstanding somewhere...

Are you sure that you are speaking of my website ? Please check your pm's...

Thanks once more...

Yes :) I got mail with accented characters correctly displayed...

But if I test from my computer, the problem remains and accented characters I enter are corrupted...

I'm using a linux distribution (openSUSE), with native UTF-8 encoding. Are you using another encoding ?

Thank you very much for your help !

It's all UTF8 that's the whole point. X2 was made utf only to support national chars. We had enough headache with X1.

Maybe ours UTF8 is different from yours, though....
Actually, maybe something was wrong with your email client or something.
I guess thats browers you use. Make sure your encoding is set to UTF8 when you viewing the page.

Anyway, now 2 issues resolved without actually doing anything.

The problem has nothing to do with email client since the problem happens when trying to type some accented char when I want to send a message in the browser showing imagevue gallery. I verified that my browsers (firefox 3 and konqueror from KDE) use UTF-8 when viewing the page.

I googled around for such problems and I found this. It seems to be a known bug of Flash Player 9 - 9_0_15_0 under linux. I can enter accented chars correctly when pressing CTRL...

Strange. But this is NOT an imagevue bug...

I'm waiting for an adobe fix ;)

Problem closed, for me. Thank you very much for your help...
