Hi,

Ive just updated to the latest version of V2 and my pics dont seem to look very good when they are compressed.

please could someone take a look and see if my settings are ok? maybe ive missed something.

There is a thumbnail quality settings in config>thumbnails>quality.
I personally dont see any difference above like 85 except file size increasing.

I checked your gallery, thumbnails are pleasing I think, vivid and clear, they distort on rollover, thats flash, I think adobe gonna remedy it soon and we think about some tricks too.

Try making bigger thumbnails with sizes evenly dividable by 8, like 128x96, jpeg works with 8x8px chunks, this might boost efficiency abit.

is there anything i can do to improve the quality of the main image the flash compressin doesnt seem to leave smoooth edges?

Maybe you could illustrate with a screenshot? Not sure what you mean.
If big image doesnt fit the screen it will be resized to fit.

Not sure what you mean, maybe on small screen its distorted because it is resized to fit to screen, looks pretty identical to me:

Imagevue does have to resize photos downwards sometimes to fit on screen(especially portrait-aspect photos), and unfortunately it does create so-called "artifacts" in the image.

There is a remedy for this behaviour with the original_optimized setting. It tries to keep the image at its original size even if it has to overlap the controls or other items. Read more here:

As Karl pointed out before, resized images show artifacts & this is due to flash's way of resizing.
thats why i chose to have portrait orientation pictures 700 pixel high and use the original_optimized option.

What disturbs me is that the resize of images is much better in imagevue V1.8. viewed on same computer,same browser, at the same time- (os x 10.5.4 & safari).

I have to admit, it has hit me several times where I seemed to remember scaling in V1 was better than what I see in V1, and you have proved it! Now, the next challenge will be to hunt down the difference - I just hope its nothing to do with the flash player vs. exported version ... Im having some trouble considering what it could be.

To create the "acceptable" scaling quality of V1, there is a setting called _quality. Default is "high", but there is another value "best" which improves bitmap scaling also. This setting is applied to both V1 and V2, so its gonna be interesting to see why it doesn't seem to be working correctly in V2. Here is the related doc from Adobe:

Yay! Just wanted to say that this issue has now been solved, and I think it will be a great improvement in the next update release!

We have now worked around this problem, and I think the scaling quality may even be BETTER than in V1 because of some enhancements to the flash player rendering engine. In fact, scaling images upwards also sees a major benefit.

I made an example of how the scaling in next release will be - Try scaling your browser up and down to resize the images:

The image on the right shows how images are currently resized in V2, while the image on the left shows how images will resize after next release!

It also solves another issue: Scaling thumbs effect on thumbnails rollover!

Just let me make one thing clear: No matter how good/improved the image scaling method is, 100% original size is always best.
