I think this could be useful if a user wants to get a quick overview of the menu.. especially if a gallery has many folders and therefore a big menu that can be looked through.

My suggestion: - an option that could be set inside the admin to be active or not. When set to active, then an option/alternative will show up inside the gallery menu to expand all the menu content. After clicking on the option/alternative then the whole menu gets expanded. Any suggestions or feedback?

yes this is something I'm wanting too. To have an option to have all nodes expanded at startup.

I am not against it, but perhaps more feasible would be a setting in admin to simply expand the menu by default? Especially for the flash version, it is always a struggle to keep the interface clutter-free, and also where would this button go and how to place it? I am sure this would be more feasible for the forthcoming html versions, which are a bit more flexible simply because of the nature of HTML.

Or just have the menu expand so one can see the position. Now one has to expand manually to see where you're at.

Having the whole gallery menu expanded by default is also an idea. However, that wouldn't let the user to choose if he/she wants to have it expanded. That's why I was thinking of letting the user choose to either expand the whole menu with one click if the user wants to and click again to shrink it. How about making it possible to do both those things from the admin panel? Since I can still understand if some or even many users prefer to have it whole expanded by default. - Then the user doesn't have to expand it.

Some users may think that a menu with really many nodes might look a bit cluttering when all is expanded, while others don't and instead find it useful. So thats why I think the user could also be possible to choose.

Having an menu item for the user to click on to expand the whole menu is maybe not the most effective and attractive way to do it though.. thats why I am open for suggestions

Maybe have a expand button just below 'Home'? Like '[+] Expand Menu' and when expanded this appears instead '[-] Shrink Menu'

Just a quick comment here ... The only reason why I am slightly opposed to having this as a function for the visitor, is that we are trying to keep the gallery as a portfolio/design, and there is minimalism involved. How often do you see a pure portfolio website for photography with expand/collapse buttons in the menu? In my very subjective opinion, I would want to have the menu minimalistic ... Expand/Collapse seems more for "admin" interfaces, or for complex libraries. Why not keep it simple for the user by not providing too many buttons and options?

Well, then having the 'default expand option' in admin is the best bet I guess. However, if it could be activated by default from admin, so the whole menu is expanded for the user at startup, then I think the user should be able to collapse parts of the menu exacly as they can now and then of course expand them back again as they can now. Just to be clear with my thinking.
